Week 15 (Nov. 24 - Nov. 25)

On Monday, students in Periods 2 and 3 reviewed the material in Chapter 9 (Molecular Geometry and Bonding Theories). They also received a Practice Test for Chapters 8 and 9.

Homework for Periods 2 and 3: Work on the Chapter 8 and 9 Practice Test. Your test on Chapters 8 and 9 will be on Monday/Tuesday.

On Monday, students in Period 4 reviewed the material in the Periodic Table packet and looked at a demonstration regarding the reactivity of three different metals.

Homework for Period 4: During our next class we will go over the information from the handout about the reactivity of three different metals. You will then take a quiz on the periodic table.

On Monday and Tuesday, students in Periods 5, 7, and 8 worked on a packet about Chemical Bonding.

Homework for Periods 5, 7, and 8: No homework. I will continue to review the concepts related to Chemical Bonding and Nomenclature during our next class.

Week 14 (Nov. 17 - Nov. 21)

On Monday, students in Period 3 began to study Chapter 8 (Basic Concepts of Chemical Bonding). On Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Periods 2 and 3 continued to learn about ionic and covalent bonding in Chapter 8, including Lewis electron-dot structures. On Thursday and Friday, students worked on a packet for Chapter 9 (Molecular Geometry and Bonding Theories).

Homework for Periods 2 and 3: Finish the Chapter 8 assignment on Mastering Chemistry and finish the Chapter 9 packet.

On Tuesday, students in Period 4 finished up a quiz on Electron Configurations and began to explore the periodic table. On Thursday, students in Period 4 worked on their Periodic Table packet.

Homework for Period 4: During out next class we will finish the Periodic Table packet and look at a demonstration regarding the reactivity of three different metals.

On Monday, students in Periods 5 and 7 worked on their Periodic Table packet. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Periods 5, 7, and 8 finished up the Periodic Table packet and viewed a demonstration on the reactivity of three different metals. On Thursday and Friday, students in Periods 5, 7, and 8 took a quiz on the periodic table.

Homework for Periods 5, 7, and 8: No homework. I will introduce concepts related to Chemical Bonding and Nomenclature during our next class.

Week 13 (Nov. 10 - Nov. 14)

On Monday and Tuesday, students in Periods 2 and 3 took a practice test for Chapters 6 and 7. On Wednesday and Thursday, students in Periods 2 and 3 took the Chapter 6 and 7 Test. On Friday, students in Period 2 began to study Chapter 8 (Basic Concepts of Chemical Bonding).

Homework for Period 3: Read Chapter 8.
Homework for Period 2: Work on your Chapter 8 packet.

On Monday, students in Period 4 finished up their quiz on Atomic Structure and Theory, and also learned about Electron Configuration. On Wednesday, students in Period 4 learned more about electron configurations and the patterns found in the periodic table. On Friday, students in Period 4 took a quiz on Electron Configuration.

Homework for Period 4: No homework. I will introduce a new topic about Mendeleev and the periodic table during our next class.

On Monday and Tuesday, students in Periods 5, 7, and 8 took a quiz on Electron Configuration. On Wednesday and Thursday, students pretended to be Mendeleev as they sorted and classified elements and predicted the properties of undiscovered elements. On Friday, students in Period 8 worked on their Periodic Table packet.

Homework for Periods 5, 7, and 8: During our next class we will be discussing information about the periodic table from your packet, including trends in atomic radius and ionization energy.

Week 12 (Nov. 5 - Nov. 7)

On Wednesday, students in Period 3 finished the Chapter 6 packet. They began to work on the material for Chapter 7 (Periodic Properties of the Elements). On Thursday and Friday, students in Periods 2 and 3 continued to work on Chapter 7. The answers were e-mailed out to students today.
 
Homework for Periods 2 & 3:  Review the material in Chapters 6 and 7. During our next class, we will have a practice test on these chapters. The test on Chapters 6 and 7 will be on Wednesday or Thursday.

On Wednesday students in Periods 5 and 7 began to learn about Electron Configuration. On Thursday and Friday, students in Periods 5, 7, and 8 began to explore the patterns in the periodic table with regard to electron configuration, valence electrons and oxidation states.

Homework for Periods 5, 7 & 8:  The answers to the two electron configuration packets were e-mailed out to students today. Review and study this material. During our next class, we will have a quiz on electron configuration. You will be allowed to use a periodic table for the quiz, but it cannot have additional notes written on it.

On Thursday, students in Period 4 took a quiz on Atomic Theory and Structure.

Homework for Period 4:  No homework. I will introduce the concepts of electron configuration and give more information about this during our next class.

Week 11 (Oct. 27 - Oct. 31)

On Monday and Tuesday, students in Periods 2 and 3 did a lab experiment on Calorimetry. On Wednesday and Thursday, students in Periods 2 and 3 began to study Chapter 6 (Electronic Structure of Atoms). On Friday, students in Period 2 finished the Chapter 6 packet. They began to work on the material for Chapter 7 (Periodic Properties of the Elements).

Homework for Periods 2 & 3:  Do the Mastering Chemistry assignment for Chapter 6 which is due on Friday, November 7.

On Monday and Tuesday, students in Periods 5, 7, and 8 reviewed radioactivity and half-life. On Wednesday and Thursday, students in Periods 5, 7, and 8 took a quiz on Atomic Theory & Structure. On Friday, students in Period 8 began to learn about Electron Configuration.

Homework for Periods 5, 7 & 8:
No homework. I will introduce the concepts of electron configuration and give more information about this during our next class.

 

On Monday, students in Period 4 learned about the development of atomic theory. On Wednesday, students in Period 4 learned about the properties of protons, electrons, and neutrons. On Friday, students in Period 4 learned about radioactivity and half-life.

Homework for Period 4:  Your homework is to study for a QUIZ on atomic theory and atomic structure. This quiz includes atomic theory, protons, electrons, neutrons, isotopes, ions, radioactivity, nuclear decay reactions, and half-life.
