Week 6 (Sep. 22 - Sep 26)

On Monday, students in Period 3 prepared for a quiz on sections 4.3 & 4.4.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Periods 2 & 3 took a quiz on sections 4.3 & 4.4.
On Thursday and Friday, students in Periods 2 & 3 started a titration lab.

Homework for Periods 2 & 3: If you have not finished the Mastering Chemistry assignments, they are due on Monday at midnight. No extensions! Also, finish the Chapter 4 Packet that covers Sections 4.5 & 4.6, which can be found here.

On Monday, students in Periods 5 & 7 took a Unit 2 Practice Test.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Periods 4, 5, 7 & 8 took the Unit 2 Test.
On Thursday, students in Period 4 finished the Unit 2 Test.
On Thursday and Friday, students in Periods 5, 7 & 8 began Unit 3 (Chemical Reactions).

Week 5 (Sep. 15 - Sep. 19)

On Monday and Tuesday, students in Periods 2 & 3 took a a quiz on sections 4.1 & 4.2. On Wednesday and Thursday I discussed the material in sections 4.3 & 4.4, which deal with the topics of acids and bases and oxidation-reduction reactions. On Friday students in Period 2 prepared for a quiz on sections 4.3 & 4.4.

Homework for Period 2: Study for a quiz on sections 4.3 & 4.4. Complete the Mastering Chemistry assignments for Chapter 4. There should be more assignments posted this weekend.

On Monday and Tuesday, students in Periods 4, 5, 7 & 8 worked on problems involving Percent Composition, Empirical Formulas, and Molecular Formulas. On Wednesday and Thursday students did a lab experiment entitled Determining the Percentage of Water in a Hydrate. The answers to the Percent Composition &  Empirical Formula packet can be found here. On Friday students in Periods 4 & 8 took a Unit 2 Practice Test.

Homework for Periods 4 and 8: Study for the Unit 2 Test. I will e-mail you the answers/explanations to the practice test.

Week 4 (Sep. 8 - Sep. 12)

On Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Periods 2 & 3 did a lab experiment on Solubility Rules and Net Ionic Equations. We also worked on practice problems from sections 4.1 & 4.2 of the textbook. On Thursday and Friday, students in Periods 2 & 3 finished up section 4.2 and then worked on the topic of acids and bases from section 4.3 of the textbook.

Homework for Periods 2 & 3: Study for a quiz on sections 4.1 & 4.2. Complete the Mastering Chemistry assignments for Chapter 4. Continue reading through Chapter 4. There should be more assignments posted this weekend.


On Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Periods 4, 5, 7  & 8 practiced unit conversions involving moles. The graphic organizer for these mole conversions is shown below.
On Thursday and Friday, students in Periods 4, 5, 7 & 8 did a lab experiment entitled Determining the Percentage of Oxygen in Potassium Chlorate. We also practiced calculations involving percent composition and determining chemical formulas.

Week 3 (Sep. 2 - Sep. 5)

On Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Periods 4, 5, 7, & 8 took the Unit 1 Practice Test, and then we reviewed the answers. On Thursday and Friday, they took the Unit 1 Test, which covered topics that included lab safety, measurement, precision/accuracy, significant figures, unit conversions, and density.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, AP students in Periods 2 & 3 did a laboratory experiment entitled "Gravimetric Analysis of a Metal Carbonate." On Thursday and Friday, I introduced the first part of Chapter 4 with a packet. The Chapter 4 packet can be found here.

Homework for Periods 2 & 3: Work on the Mastering Chemistry assignment for Chapter 4, and work on the Chapter 4 packet. Do as much as you can with this! It will help you understand it.
