Week 2 (Aug. 25 - Aug. 29)

On the Tuesday and Wednesday, students in Honors Chemistry and MESA Chemistry did a measurement activity that reinforced the concepts of significant figures, precision/accuracy, and density calculations. On Thursday and Friday, we did some practice with unit conversions using dimensional analysis.

This week my AP Chemistry students worked through a practice test on Chapters 1-3. The test was taken on Thursday and Friday.

For next week, students in Periods 4, 5, 7, & 8 will be taking a practice test on Unit 1 that includes topics such as lab safety, scientific method, measurement, precision/accuracy, sig figs, density, percent error, & unit conversions. The Unit 1 Test will be on Thursday and Friday.

Students in AP Chem will be doing a lab on Tuesday and Wednesday in which they will determine the identity of an unknown metal carbonate. AP Chem students should read through Chapter 4 (Reactions in Aqueous Solution). You can expect to hear from me soon regarding your next Mastering Chemistry assignment.

E-mail me if you have any questions.

Homework for 4th period and 8th period: Click here to watch the video on unit conversions. You must solve all ten of the problems contained in the video. You must clearly show all of your conversion factors for each problem. The set-up is very important. Clearly indicate how each unit can be cancelled out as you show your steps. Round off your final answers to the proper number of significant figures.

Week 1 (Aug. 20 - Aug. 22)

On the first day of class, I handed out the Lab Safety Contract and the one-page summary of the syllabus information. If anyone has NOT filled out the Student Survey or the Parent Survey, they should do so as soon as possible. Thank you.

On the second day of class, AP Chemistry students worked on a Chapter 1-3 practice test.
MESA Chemistry students took a quiz on lab safety and briefly discussed units of measurement.

Homework for 3rd period: Finish the Chapter 1-3 practice test that was given out in class. Be prepared to go over it in class and discuss/defend your answers.

Homework for 5th period and 7th period: Click here for the Measurement.1 video and questions.
