Summary for Week 5 (September 16 - 20)

AP Chemistry
  • On Monday/Tuesday students took a Test on Chapter 3.
  • On Wednesday/Thursday we discussed the behavior of substances in water (electrolytes and nonelectrolytes). We used the solubility rules to determine if an ionic solid is soluble or insoluble. We practiced writing net ionic equations for double replacement reactions.
  • Today students took a quiz on Chapter 4, sections 4.1 & 4.2
  • The homework for Chapter 4 is available on my Google Drive. You can find it by clicking here. It covers section 4.3 of the textbook. It is due on Monday/Tuesday. I will be sending out an e-mail this weekend with some important tips about how to complete this homework.
Honors Chemistry
  • On Monday students took a Test on Unit 2.
  • On Tuesday I introduced the concepts associated with Unit 3, including classification of matter and phase changes. We also talked about separating mixtures, with examples that included chromatography, filtration, and distillation. We saw that electrolysis can be used to decompose water into hydrogen gas and oxygen gas.
  • On Wednesday we worked on classification of matter and conservation of mass.
  • On Thursday we discussed how to calculate the molarity of a solution. Practice problems included how to calculate the grams of solute needed to prepare a certain volume of solution in which the molarity is known.
  • Today I reviewed molarity problems a bit more. Students took a quiz on Matter, Changes, and Molarity. The homework for Monday is a worksheet on Balancing Equations.
  • If you missed class for any reason, please go to my Google Drive to see notes from class and get copies of worksheets that you missed. E-mail me if you have any questions.
Students can look in the AP Chemistry folder or the Honors Chemistry folder to find important documents. Have a good weekend.
